Ian Reed will present his comprehensive exam topic, “An Exploration of Millicharged Particle Searches Beyond the LHC” via Zoom.

ABSTRACT: Millicharged particles (mCPs) are present in several Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) models of physics. UNL has been involved in MilliQan, an experiment to look for these particles using the resources available at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, particle colliders are not the only way to explore the properties of these particles. This paper is an exploration of how other experimental methods may be used to constrain the different values in the phase space of mass and charge. Due to the connection between magnetic monopoles and mCPs, a discussion of monopoles and searches for them is also included.
