Classroom management involves establishing and maintaining a comfortable, safe environment that allows everyone to learn and participate freely, while at the same time keeping your course schedule on track.

But creating a climate for learning is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching, and one of the most difficult skills to master, even at the college level.

This workshop provides proactive strategies that prevent problems from occurring in the first place and help you create a positive learning environment. Topics include:
• Setting tone and expectations on the first day of class.
• Using your syllabus as a classroom management tool.
• Providing students with a daily topic outline.
• Focusing on student learning and involvement rather than teaching.
• Interacting with students fairly and impartially.
• Asking and answering questions effectively.
• Dealing with challenging classroom situations and students.

This workshop can be applied towards CIRTL Associate Status. It will address the CIRTL core ideas of Learning Communities and Learning through Diversity.
