Join us on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at 7:00 pm, at the Malone Community Center, 2032 U Street, when Dr. Amy Kirschke, Chair and Professor of Art History at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, will speak on: “To Nebraska With Open Arms: Aaron Douglas Reexamined”

Aaron Douglas was an African American painter and a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance. Douglas graduated from Topeka High School in 1917 and received his B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1922. In 1925, Douglas moved to New York City, settling in Harlem and began to produce illustrations for both ” The Crisis: and “Opportunity” the two most important magazines associated with the Harlem Renaissance.
