Join us on Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. for a gallery talk with guest curator Christine Martens related to the upcoming exhibition “Yorgan: The Art of the Turkish Quilt” opening Aug. 9 in the West Gallery.

An artist and teacher for most of her professional career, Christine Martens has worked since 2002 as an independent researcher documenting and writing about textile traditions of Turkey and Central Asia. Martens has traveled to Turkey on several International Quilt Museum-sponsored research and collecting trips and has been indispensable in helping the IQM build its Turkish quilt collection.

Martens received her MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and was on the Visual Arts Faculty at the Spence School in New York for over 25 years. Prior to that, she taught at the New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Design.

First Fridays are FREE events held on the first Friday of each month. Enjoy free access to the IQM galleries from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
