Trees for the future may best be determined by genes, geography and provenance, according to Dr. Scott Schlarbaum, director of the University of Tennessee’s Tree Improvement Program.

– 12:00-1:00 p.m.—Brown-bag program aimed at homeowners and professionals, “A Little Southern Forestry in the Great Plains,” suggests and promotes the use of specific selections of hardwood trees for both urban and rural plantings.
– 1:30-2:30 p.m.—A more scholarly study of genetic selections of trees recommended for future plantings in Nebraska, given a changing climate and more extreme weather.

Refreshments will be available from 1-1:30 between sessions. Participants are invited to bring lunch or dinner, if desired, and ideas or questions.
