John Paterson, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor, Montana State University will present a seminar titled, “50 Years: From the ranch to academia to industry. A great career that started at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dr. Paterson was raised on a ranch in SW New Mexico and received his Ph.D. in Beef Cattle Nutrition from the University of Nebraska under the mentorship of Terry Klopfenstein. From 1979 to 1993 he was on the faculty of the Animal Science Department at the University of Missouri and was the state beef extension specialist at Montana State University from 1996 to 2012. Following retirement from Montana State he was the Executive Director of Education for the National Cattlemen’ Association (2012-2016). Since 2016 he has consulted for numerous companies (Neogen, Food Safety Net, Where Food Comes From) with the most recent one being Multimin USA.

Among the numerous industry awards Dr. Paterson has received are the Pfizer Animal Health, National Extension Award from the American Society of Animal Science and the Distinguished Service Award from the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science. He was named a Fellow in Extension from the American Society of Animal Science and an Emeritus Professor. He has authored and co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed and proceedings papers and given more than 200 invited presentations.
