Double Reed Day features guest artists/clinicians Saxton Rose, bassoon and Johanna Cox, oboe.
The day-long workshop on will be on Saturday, Feb 9 in Westbrook Recital Hall, Room 119.

Saxton Rose is the Assistant Professor of Bassoon and director of the contemporary music ensemble at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Additionally he is the Principal Bassoonist of the Winston-Salem Symphony, and was recently named the new bassoonist of the acclaimed New York-based wind quintet, Zéphyros Winds. He previously served as Principal Bassoonist of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2008 and has appeared as concerto soloist with the National Symphony of Colombia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Caldas in Colombia, National Symphony of Panamá, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, and the Winston-Salem Symphony. He graduated with highest honors from the class of Stefano Canuti at the Conservatorio “Agostino Steffani” in Castelfranco-Veneto, Italy and is a former student of William Winstead at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.


Johanna Cox is the new Associate Professor of Oboe at Louisiana State University School of Music. She performed her Carnegie Hall solo debut in October of 2005. A graduate of Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music, Ms. Cox was chosen for Eastman’s Freiburg Exchange Program, bringing her to Germany to study with soloist Heinz Holliger at the Freiburg Musikhochschule. Ms. Cox has been featured as soloist on the “Live from Hochstein” broadcast on WXXI FM radio in her hometown of Rochester, NY, where she won her first concerto competition at age 17, and performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1997, Johanna and twin sister, Lenora, performed the Bach Double Concerto with the National Repertory Orchestra. In 2010 she gave the world premiere performance of Miguel del Aguila’s “Rondo Roto” for English horn and orchestra. She can be heard on the CD Gale Force (Albany Records), with the woodwind quintet Prairie Winds. She has been a member of the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra since 2002.
