Stay fresh with the latest techniques for canning delicious fruit or home-grown vegetables! Safely keep in-season produce for healthy meals this winter. Sign up for an educational workshop provided by University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Extension. “Update Your Canning Skills” will be September 10, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm at the Box Butte Extension office in Alliance, 415 Black Hills Avenue.

Attendance is limited to the first 12 registrants. Registration forms are available from any local UNL Extension office and are due by September 6. To request a registration form or for more information, contact Jeanne Murray at 308-762-5616 (jmurray1@unl.edu) or Jamie Goffena at 308-432-5292, 308-668-2428 (jgoffena2@unl.edu).

“Home canning is popular now for many reasons whether it is for the fun of it, to save food costs, or to know what ingredients are in the food fed to your family. The process can be simple and safe when following the latest research-based information,” said Jamie Goffena, UNL Extension Educator and one of the teachers. Also teaching the workshop is Jeanne Murray, UNL Extension Educator and certified ServSafe instructor.

Update your canning skills or learn some new ones related to water bath canning techniques, safe pressure canning, altitude adjustments, storing home canned goods, avoiding problems and canning resources. Participants also will experience hands-on practice of safe food preservation techniques.
