Carolyn Henne is a sculptor and the Chair of the Department of Art at Florida State University. Henne’s sculpture is largely informed by anatomical studies – from simple school-house diagrams to National Institute of Health’s Visual Human project. Her work ranges from large, complex interactive installations and performances to more straightforward, discrete objects. Her work “Suspended Self Portrait” is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Health and Medicine and was featured in the National Institute of Health’s exhibition and book Dream Anatomy.

Henne was a faculty facilitator in Virginia Commonwealth University’s da Vinci center where a collaborative team of arts, engineering, and business students worked with VCU surgeons to develop a prototype for a life like surgical trainer. Henne is currently collaborating with surgeons and engineers to develop a second set of prototypes for the surgical trainer.

Henne’s visit to UNL is made possible by the Hixson-Lied Endowment. Her public lecture is free and open to the public.
