Jeni Hansen Gard began as a vessel maker and now defines herself as a facilitator working in the space between people and the food they consume. Gard makes functional objects intended for use in everyday life. Through her work she explores the ceramic vessel as a form of social art practice. Her civic projects focus on several aspects of growing, cooking, eating and sharing food.
In 2012, Jeni Hansen Gard graduated from the University of Florida with a Master of Arts in Art Education with an emphasis in ceramics. She received her MFA from The Ohio State University in 2015.
Jeni Hansen Gard’s social practice project “Cups of Conversation” is included in the exhibition “Support Structures” curated by UNL MFA student Shalya Marsh.
“Support Structures” can be seen at Marxhausen Gallery of Art in Jesse Hall on Concordia University’s campus. The exhibition runs through February 18th and is open daily from 1-4 p.m.
