The Department of Management presents visiting scholar Dr. Jake Messersmith, associate professor of management at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, on Monday, November 3, from 2:00-3:30 in CBA 222. All CBA faculty and graduate students are invited to attend the seminar, entitled: “On the Same Page: Exploring the Link between Cross-level Leadership Fit and Innovation.” Abstract follows; see attachment for Dr. Messersmith’s biography.

Abstract
“This study assesses the linkage between two different models of leadership, transformational and transactional, as they relate to exploration and exploitation. More specifically, this paper analyzes the effect of leadership fit, or congruence, at the firm- and unit-levels in producing innovation outcomes. Results from a multi-firm, multi-unit, multi-source study of Taiwanese banks indicates that explo¬ration is enhanced when transformational leaders are present at both the firm- and unit-level, while exploitation is enhanced when transactional leaders are present at both the firm- and unit-level. HPWS implementation is also found to positively moderate both relationships.”
