As Director of the Discover Great New Writers program of Barnes & Noble, Jill Lamar has played a significant role in promoting new authors and launching major literary careers. Jill will share her insights into bookselling, promotion, and what makes for a great read. Among the many titles that have been served by the Discover program: The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold), The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini), The Help (Kathryn Stockett), The Time Traveler’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger), Wicked (Gregory Maguire), Fight Club (Chuck Palahniuk), and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle (David Wroblewski). Jill also administrates the Barnes & Noble Recommends program, another bookseller-driven initiative that strives to “break out” new and underserved writers, making instant bestsellers of their latest publication. (Free, no registration required; Nebraska Union auditorium, UNL city campus 14 & R streets.)
