Developed specifically for public works employees, green industry professionals, and landscape enthusiasts, these full-day workshops cover emerging issues in tree and landscape care.

Participants can earn CEUs from the International Society of Arboriculture and Nebraska Arborists Association.

8:30-9:00 REGISTRATION
Come early, register and visit one-on-one with foresters and tree experts.

9:00-9:45 MATCHING TREES TO PLANTING SITES
It is smart to understand the planting site well, and then pick the best tree to meet expectations. Learn what trees thrive in different sites.

9:45-10:00 BREAK
10:00-10:30 INSTRUCTIONS IN PRUNING
Mature trees with little corrective pruning in their early years can become damaged from wind and storms. Learn about the proper tools and pruning techniques for trees, which can lead to improved branch structure and help prevent problems.

10:30-11:30 DIAGNOSING ASH PROBLEMS
With the appearance of emerald ash borer in Colorado, questions about ash trees are increasing. We will discuss insects, diseases and environmental factors that are associated with declining ash, as well as provide information on preparing for EAB.

11:30-12:00 BENEFITS OF COMMUNITY FORESTS
From green spaces improving community health to shade trees reducing the urban heat island effect, trees are at work in the community forests.

12:00-1:15 LUNCH & TREE ID
Visit with Nebraska Forest Service staff and enjoy lunch (provided). For those interested, a lesson on basic tree identification will be given.

1:15-3:30 HANDS-ON LEARNING
The afternoon program consists of two small group rotations. These sessions will provide an opportunity to apply what you have learned in the morning sessions.

1. Designing With Trees: Placement & Companion Plantings to Aid Long-term Survival
Mini-design workshop that will focus on urban ecology and designing to ensure that trees within the landscape thrive.

2. OUTDOOR PRUNING LAB
With pruning tools in hand, learn how to prune young trees to develop proper structure for maturing trees. Learn the methods to help trees survive nature’s elements.

3:30 WRAP UP

Registration: $45.00 per person, lunch included. $15.00 for ReTree Ambassadors.
Lunch is not included for at-door registrations.
