This relaxing, very informal tour will offer time for good discussion among peers and a chance to share ideas, questions and challenges. We will be touring community forestry projects as well as conservation tree plantings with native and non-native trees and shrubs to see how well they’re adapted to the soils and climate of the Southern Panhandle.

9:15-9:30 Welcome/Introductions from Galen Wittrock, South Platte NRD

9:30-10:30 Depart NRD Office for Wood Utilization Operation

10:30-12 Ricky Lucy’s Country Greenhouse

12-2:30 Hackberry Hollow (box lunch provided)

2:30-4:30 Wittrock’s Tree/Shrub Plantings

5-8:00 Barbecue at Wittrock’s Farm

8:30-9 Gather at the South Platte NRD Office (donuts and coffee provided)

9-10:30 “Show & Tell” with Ryan Reisdorff of the South Platte NRD about the rain garden, xeriscape and trees developed as a Trees for Nebraska Towns Project

10:30-12 Potter Community Forestry Plantings

Noon Wrap-up and depart
