Celebrate the bounty of fall with samples of apples, cider, nuts, popcorn and ice cream, and its beauty with mini-talks, tours and displays. Concurrent mini-talks on birds and insects will be held at 4:45 and repeated at 5:45. A tree will be planted at 5:30 p.m.

“This is an event for the whole family,” said Ted Hartung, president of the Friends of Maxwell Arboretum. Besides the displays and samples that relate to the state, the university, and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, there will be a variety of kids’ activities and adult tours to highlight some of the beauties of this public garden.

Free samples include popcorn from UNL Agronomy and Horticulture, ice cream from the Dairy Store, apples and cider from Kimmel Orchards and nuts from the Nebraska Nut Growers Association. With funding support from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, Nebraska Statewide Arboretum will have 200-300 free trees, shrubs and perennials for participants. There will be educational displays, materials and activities for the whole family throughout the UNL East Campus arboretum at 38th and Holdrege.

Parking will be available west of the dental college. More information on the festival can be found at unlgardens.unl.edu, or contact Ted Hartung at 402-488-5568 or the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum at 402-472-2971.
