Univ. of Wyoming researcher will present his seminar on winter-hardy field peas. Winter feed pea is a nitrogen-fixing cool season annual legume that might serve as a partial or complete replacement for fallow in the wheat-wheat-summer fallow cropping system widely used in the Central Great Plains. In this system, a wheat crop is grown every other year with a long 14-month fallow between crops.

Winter field pea could provide the benefits of a legume in the rotation and with potential to integrate cereal and livestock production. The goal of Groose’s research is to breed winter feed pea for adaptation to the Central Great Plains.
His talk will begin at 3:00 pm in the Bluestem Room and is free and open to the public.
