Distinguished Alumni Michael Strand (MFA 1999) will be giving a public lecture at 2:30 pm Friday April 19th in room 14 Richards Hall.

Strand is known for orchestrating projects that unite craft, art and social engagement. He is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Visual Art at North Dakota State University. His recent work “The Misfit Cup Liberation Project” was prominently featured in the NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) Biennial Exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and will soon be exhibited at the Tallinn Applied Arts Triennial in Tallinn, Estonia. Strand’s work has been published internationally, with articles in <i>Ceramics Technical, Studio Potter, Hemslojen, The Chronicle of Higher Education</i> and <i>Public Art Review.</i> His recent “Artstimulus” projects were cited in the Yale University Press publication “40 Under 40: Craft Futures” by Renwick Gallery curator Nicholas Bell. In addition Strand recently presented a TEDxtalk titled “The Spaces Between: Art, Craft and Humanity”.
