Garth Johnson returns to campus as part of the Alumni Masters Week, Nov. 4-6, sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, Scarlet Guard and the UNL Chancellor’s Office.

Johnson is curator of ceramics at the Arizona State University Art Museum in Tempe. He previously served as the Curator of Artistic Programs at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, and spent seven years as a professor at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. Johnson, a 1997 UNL graduate (BFA), is a self-described craft activist who explores craft’s influence and relevance in the 21st century. He is leading a task force for a publication that will anthologize contributions to the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Journal for their 50th Anniversary in 2016. He received his MFA from Alfred University in 2000.

Every fall outstanding alumni return to campus to share their experiences and knowledge with UNL students. Since 1964, nearly 400 alumni have participated in Alumni Masters Week. The selection of the Alumni Masters is competitive, and candidates are alumni who have shown great promise, success and leadership in their fields.
