Entrepreneurs are a unique kind of human talent. Based on The Center for Rural Entrepreneurship experience, there are four unique kinds of entrepreneurial talent which, when developed and grown, enable more successful communities:

? Business Entrepreneurs
? Civic Entrepreneurs
? Social Entrepreneurs
? And most importantly Community Entrepreneurs

Growing entrepreneurial talent is a foundational development strategy for all communities but particularly rural communities in America’s Great Plains Region. This training will focus on critical elements centered on identifying, engaging and growing rural community entrepreneurial talent.

Two Areas of Focus. This professional development engagement will focus on helping Nebraska Extension staff and faculty work with communities in Nebraska to grow their entrepreneurial talent in order to grow more prosperous communities. Initially within this engagement, we will focus on two key strategy elements:

Achieving Impact Sooner, Measuring Results & Communicating Success. The Center’s field experience shows that there is a relatively limited time frame (typically one year) in which we must achieve clear impacts with an initiative to ensure that a community continues to invest in and sustain the initiative. This part of the program reviews our initiative “accelerator” framework and process. It also focuses on the development and use of metrics to guide and sustain community engagement. We will explore how progress and success can be communicated more effectively at both the community and organizational (Nebraska Extension) levels for maximum impact.

The Art and Science of Community Coaching.Whether or not we call it “community coaching,” Extension has a rich history of effective community coaching. This part of the program will explore the art and science of community coaching. Effective community coaching can create core community relationships and infrastructure through which University and other community development assistance can be delivered.
