Brown-bag on Amazing Prairie Plants

Date:
Time:
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
A brown-bag session on some of the most interesting plants of Nebraska prairies will be held Sept. 3 at noon in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Keim Hall room 150.
Bob Henrickson of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum will talk about some prairie plants with interesting characteristics, history or uses.
“Our native wildflowers and grasses have a rich history here on the Great Plains. These are plants that are not only beautiful but were also useful to Native Americans and prairie pioneers for ceremony, food, shelter or play,” Henrickson said.
Henrickson also recommends creating a prairie-style landscape around your home to attract songbirds, butterflies and a host of other pollinating insects. “It’s a great way to help your children learn to observe seasonal differences, and appreciate the beauty and durability of our native prairie plants,” he said.
Anyone wishing to listen in can take part online at: connect.unl.edu/brownbag. The presentations are also available afterwards at arboretum.unl.edu/brown-bags. This is part of a brown-bag series on “all things green” sponsored by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, UNL Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, UNL Garden Friends and Friends of Maxwell Arboretum.
