Hot summer, meet cool museum!
Join us and Elizabeth Rubendall Artist in Residence B.C. Gilbert, for free UNL Dairy Store ice cream at our August First Friday. Get a frozen treat, and check out our newest exhibition of Great Plains art.
Gilbert will speak for a short period about his art at 6 p.m. He’ll be creating an artwork in the Museum Aug. 2-6 and Oct. 11-15 as part of our annual Artist in Residence exhibition, which is currently in its 10th year.
The exhibition features a number of woodblock prints and paintings portraying popular icons of the American West.
B.C. Gilbert hails from the Texas High Plains and holds an MFA from Texas Tech University. By incorporating the iconography of West Texas, Gilbert’s work reveals his experiences growing up on the High Plains of Texas. He depicts the West in a manner reminiscent of Pop artists through his multi-media constructions that merge painting with unconventional materials such as leather, metal siding, and found objects. Most recently, he began making prints combining Western icons with text. Gilbert’s sculptural paintings and prints present a unique perspective of the contemporary American West.
