Madeline Shea, professor, Department of Biochemistry, Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa will present the seminar “Calmodulin Choreography on Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels: Allostery in Action.”

Dr. Shea is a professor of biochemistry in the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. Her biophysical chemistry laboratory probes the linkage between cooperative ligand binding, subunit assembly, and conformational change in calcium-mediated signal transduction pathways. Her group focuses on determining the structures and probabilities of multiple states of calmodulin as it regulates ion channels and enzymes, and is inhibited by anti-psychotic drugs. Dr. Shea is also the Founding Director of the FUTURE (Fostering Undergraduate Talent – Uniting Research and Education) in Biomedicine Program which brings faculty and student pairs from primarily undergraduate institutions to conduct research with faculty in the Carver College of Medicine.
