The Chiara String Quartet (Rebecca Fischer and Hyeyung Julie Yoon, violins; Jonah Sirota, viola; Gregory Beaver, cello) will conclude their performances for the 2017-2018 Hixson-Lied Concert Series. This program is a celebration of the Chiara Quartet’s time at UNL, presented with friends of the Chiara Quartet from the Glenn Korff School of Music and the winner of the “Play with the Chiaras” audition. Developed by the Chiara Quartet in 2007, this annual competition awards a UNL chamber music student with the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the quartet.

The Chiara Quartet will perform Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 132 in A minor in their signature style of performing from memory, or “by heart.” They will be joined by UNL Faculty Guest Artists violinist David Neely, violinist/violist Clark Potter, cellist Karen Becker, and bassist Hans Sturm along with violist Maya Abboud, winner of Play with the Chiaras audition, and violinist Yeeun Cho, alternate winner. With these guest musicians, they will perform selections from Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings Op. 20 in E-flat Major, Dvorak’s String Quintet Op. 77 in A Major, Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major D. 956, Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor K. 516, and Grazyna Bacewicz’s Quartet for Four Violins.
