The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will display the “2018 MACAA Members Exhibition” Oct. 3-19 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

An opening reception will be held on First Friday, Oct. 5 from 5-8 p.m. in the gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibition is happening in conjunction with the Mid-American College Art Association (MACAA) Conference, “Techne Expanding: Tensions, Terrains and Tools,” hosted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln on Oct. 4-5.

Techne Expanding will explore wide-ranging interpretations of technology and its use and impact on the teaching, making, and performing art as well as the broader human experience. Recognizing that technology has art and craft at its root (techne) and isn’t limited just to bigger, better or faster tools and products, the conference will examine how we embrace or resist technology, how we celebrate or critique it, and consider its promise as well as its limits.

The works included in this exhibition were juried by artist, writer and educator Anthony Hawley—an interdisciplinary artist and writer and former lecturer in the School of Art, Art History & Design.

One of the works selected is an installation with a performative component by David Sanchez Burr titled “Big Bad Anthropocene.” Burr’s performance is also one of the scheduled conference events. It will take place in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The 10 artists showing work are:
A.P. Vague
Carlos Rene Pacheco
Chung-Fan Chang
David Sanchez Burr
Ellen Mueller
Eric Zeigler
Guen Montgomery
Joo Kim
Karen Gergely
Matt Drissell

The Eisentrager-Howard Gallery is located on the first floor of Richards Hall (Stadium Drive and T streets). The Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. On Oct. 4 , gallery hours will be extended to 5:30 p.m. to accommodate David Sanchez Burr’s performance. Admission to the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery is free and open to the public.
