Dr. Rutilio Fratti, associate professor, Department of Biochemistry, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present the seminar “Regulation of the SNARE Activation Machinery by Phosphatidic Acid.”

Dr. Fratti’s lab is interested in elucidating how protein-lipid interactions affect cellular homeostasis. Specifically, they examine how the lipid composition and physical properties of membranes affect the proteins that drive membrane fusion, including SNAREs, Rab GTPases and their effector proteins. Most recently we have focused on the conversion of phosphatidic acid to diacylglycerol and how it controls the start of the fusion pathway by promoting the activation of SNARE proteins.
