Learning more about the identities of the students we work within our teaching spaces can be very useful in determining strategies and approaches to learning. While we do not pry into our students’ personal lives, it may be that they volunteer that they are a W.S. Thompson Scholar, First Husker, or Veteran. Other details concerning their identities may also emerge in our interactions with them that allow us to help students participate in learning in the fullest possible way. The round table facilitated by Nick Monk, CTT Director, that will form the main part of this session, will invite instructors to interact with the leaders of several different centers across the UNL that support students directly.

There will be representatives from Student Careers, Residence Life, International Fellowships, Undergraduate Research, the ACE Program, the Center for Academic Success and Transition, and New Student Enrollment. We also hope to have students attend, so you can hear their hopes and concerns for the fall semester directly. You will derive from this workshop a greater sense of the diversity of the students you teach, and this will inspire you to reflect on how you might be able to work with this diversity to offer a more engaging experience for your students.
