OLLI Movies that Matter uses the power of documentary films to educate, inform and create dialogue. The selected documentary focuses on an important current and challenging social issue of our time and the human stories of those most affected. Discussion with local community experts follows the film.

“A Home Called Nebraska”

This film, produced in 2020, provides an opportunity to learn how Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, and other organizations, such as the Good Neighbor Community Center and Asian Community and Cultural Center, are working together to resettle refugees from around the world in Lincoln and other communities across Nebraska. The State of Nebraska will be accepting approximately 750 refugees in 2022. They will be split approximately equally between Lincoln and Omaha.

Panel: Representatives from community organizations will discuss current refugee resettlements, especially of Afghans refugees; Students from UNL’s Afghanistan group and their sponsor, Farida Ebrahim, will answer questions.
