Join us in September for a virtual Seminar Series event featuring a presentation by Christal Badour on “Using a Health Equity Framework to Understand Trauma and Substance Use in Rural Appalachia.” We are co-hosting this event alongside the Minority Health Disparities Initiative.

People in the rural Appalachian region of the United States experience serious health inequities including multiple substance use and mental health morbidities as well as premature mortality. Dr. Badour will present on several projects aimed at understanding the multi-level factors at the individual, social/community-, policy-, and societal levels that serve to maintain and exacerbate existing health disparities in the areas of substance use, psychological trauma, and sleep health.

Dr. Badour is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Kentucky. She is also the co-founder and co-director of the University of Kentucky Clinic for Emotional Health (CEH). Her research focuses on understanding factors involved in the development, maintenance, and treatment of psychopathology following exposure to violence and other traumatic events.
