During International Education Week, stop by the booth in the Nebraska Union to learn more about the Peace Corps Prep (PC Prep) program for Nebraska undergraduates. The next application deadline is January 15, 2024, so this is a great time to ask questions about the program and application, before the semester winds down.

PC Prep centers on one empowering question: How can you prepare yourself to be the best Peace Corps Volunteer you can be? Integrating UNL coursework, hands-on experience, and professional development, the PC Prep program prepares undergraduates for international development fieldwork and potential Peace Corps service by building four core competencies: 1) Sector-specific skills (in Education, Health, Environment, Agriculture, Youth in Development, or Community Economic Development); 2) Foreign language proficiency; 3) Intercultural competence; and 4) Professional savvy and leadership. Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate from the Peace Corps, a federal agency. Completing the PC Prep program gives students a competitive edge when applying for Peace Corps service, but does not guarantee acceptance.

Special features of the PC Prep program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln include: Study abroad scholarships up to $5,000, an Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessment upon acceptance and completion, semester kick-off events, announcements about campus/community events, and opportunities to engage with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers in the community through events, mentorship, and group volunteer experiences.
