Come to learn about and ask questions about the faculty-led program to Brazil with Drs. Crystal Garcia and Taeyeon Kim. The program will take place in Bahia, Salvador in Brazil. Brazil is an important and unique context in which to study diversity and equity and particularly anti-Blackness.

-3 Weeks; Salvador, Brazil (Summer 2024)
-Portuguese classes;
-Lectures from Brazilian scholars on topics such as the history of slavery in Brazil, Brazilian education, the history of graffiti and its use as a tool for activism/resistance, and Afro-Brazilian religion among others;
-Activities such as visits to schools and the Instituto Cultural Beneficente Steve Biko (an NGO that provides college entrance exam preparation for Black students), engagement with Brazilian dance forms and Capoeira demonstrations, Candomblé temple visit, and trips to Bahian landmarks;
-Homestays. Students will be paired with host families for an immersive cultural experience wherein they will eat typical Brazilian foods, practice speaking Portuguese, and gain other insights to Brazilian culture.
