Over the course of their careers, behavioral health professionals likely will have an opportunity to work with individuals who served in the U.S. military. Regardless of whether an episode of care focuses on specific military-related topics, having an understanding of common experiences that military service members may have empowers civilian healthcare providers to create meaningful therapeutic alliances essential for positive treatment outcomes. This presentation will provide context for understanding military service across numerous eras, and address clinical concerns and themes that behavioral health providers may encounter when working with US military veterans.
