It is well established that commercial building HVAC systems can present significant energy savings potential from addressing operational problems. Building commissioning has been established for decades as a building performance improvement strategy, and the past decade has seen growing market adoption of data analytical tools to enhance fault identification and maintain performance. Significant potential still exists, however, and the emergence of building performance standards will likely see enhanced motivation for commissioning and data analytics. In this lecture you will learn about the state of the art in commissioning/analytics technology characteristics, costs, and benefits, and gain insight into research that is demonstrating HVAC fault self-correction capabilities.
