Regenerative agriculture is a “system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services.” Regenerative practices improve soil health by sinking and storing greenhouse gas emissions in the soil by using increased bio-diversity and cropping, as well as returning livestock to the ground (instead of holding livestock in confinement).
If done right, Regenerative Agriculture offers us our best chance to draw down greenhouse gas emissions. Permaculture-based techniques are a vital part of the regenerative model.
This outing will give participants the opportunity to visit two Nebraska farms that practice Regenerative Agriculture Principles.
Vetter Farms - Aurora, NE – This farm has been organic since the 1950’s and on only 280 acres of land is not only one of the most diversified farms in the area, the farm (along with its feed mill and warehouse employs around 30 employees. This farm offers a vision of how regenerative farming can rebuild rural communities.
Ficke Cattle Company - Pleasant Dale, NE – Ficke Cattle Company & Graze Masters offer regenerative beef consulting for farmers, and a great selection of holistically-raised fresh beef, straight from our farm to your table.
Our tentative lunch plans are at Prairie Plate restaurant, Raymond NE.. See https://prairieplaterestaurant.com/ “From the Farm, Through our Kitchen, To Your Table” Cost will be $20 per person with $10 paid in advance with your participant reservation. The Chapter may be able to subsidize the other $10 of the cost.
