Number of Volunteers Needed: 2… 1 each day (more if interested in helping with other activities)

The Nebraska Game & Parks Commission sponsors the Outdoor Discovery Program for 4-6 grade students in eastern Nebraska. The event invites classrooms of students to learn about multiple environmental and outdoor recreation topics by visiting 5 different stations throughout the day. We are seeking 2 volunteers to help with an activity called “Animal Olympics”…. Students learn about amazing animal adaptations like a grasshoppers huge back legs which allow it to jump over 20 times its body length. Or, a Pronghorn can run 55 miles per hour to out run predators. Once students learn about some amazing Nebraska-specific animal facts, they will try their hand (and feet) to beat the animals. Students will rotate through a series of challenges – long jump (grasshopper), sprinting (pronghorn), etc. At the end, we will see which student “won” each event.

As always, we can provide all materials including the Olympics stations and directions for the activity. We need a NMN who is enthusiastic and excited about Nebraska wildlife and the amazing facts about them!
