The August meeting of the OLLI Baseball Interest Group will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. at Stauffer’s Cafe & Pie Shoppe, 5600 S. 48th Street. All OLLI members who enjoy talking about baseball are invited to attend.

In August, we will be talking about:

• The Los Angeles Angels pitched a combined “no-hitter” and won 13 - 0 over the Seattle Mariners on the night a ceremony was held to honor Tyler Skaggs, the pitcher who tragically passed away recently. Was someone looking over the game?

• The Kansas City Royals have finally brought up Bubba Starling and he has gotten off to a reasonably good start. He is definitely a major league caliber fielder. But will he hit?

• We should take a moment and note the recent passing of Bill Buckner who died at age 69. He played 22 seasons for 5 teams, was a batting champ, All-Star and had career stats of .289 and 2,715 hits. But we all remember game 6 of the 1986 World Series. Is it fair that he is only remembered for one of the most notorious errors in MLB history?

• Lots of player movement at the trading deadline but not a lot of “big names” changing uniforms. Zack Greinke to the Houston Astros was probably the biggest news. Are the Astros with the ability to pitch Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Greinke in a playoff series now the favorite to win it all this year?

• The minor league Atlantic League has been called MLB’s “crash-test dummy league” for its use as a testing ground for changes in the game. It now is testing letting batters steal first on a wild-pitch or passed ball, and using technology to call balls and strikes. What do you think about that?

• Trevor Bauer, pitching for the Indians at the time against Kansas City, was so frustrated about being removed from the game that he turned and threw the baseball from the pitcher’s mound over the centerfield fence at Kauffman Stadium. He was promptly traded to the Cincinnati Reds. What do all you Cleveland Indians fans think about that move?
