The January meeting of the OLLI Baseball Interest Group will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Stauffer’s Cafe & Pie Shoppe, 5600 S. 48th Street. All OLLI baseball fans are welcome to come, have a piece of pie, and talk a little baseball.

Here are some of the current baseball happenings we will discuss:

• Gerrit Cole to the New York Yankees - $320 M

• Anthony Rendon to the Los Angeles Angels - $245 M

• Corey Kluber from Cleveland to the Texas Rangers for Delino DeShields and Emanuel Close

• Don Larsen dies at age 90

• MLB announces a “Three Batter Rule” for 2020. A reliever now must face 3 batters or end the inning before he can be lifted. Is this the end of the “lefty specialist” - Cleveland’s Oliver Perez led MLB with 22 one hitter appearances in 2019.

• Now the Boston Red Sox are being investigated for stealing signs

We’ll also talk about attending the installation dinner of the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame in Beatrice on Sunday, Feb. 9, where our own Bill Fagler will be among the new inductees.

And, since January is kind of a slow time for baseball, read this entertaining article from Tim Kurkjian on Alex Gordon’s controversial “run around the bases” in the bottom of the ninth inning of the 7th game of the 2014 World Series. Should he have tried to score? We will settle the argument once and for all:
