College students are speaking about their mental health concerns now more than ever, and when they are ready to do so, they often disclose these struggles to trusted mentors, advisors, and professors on campus.

For many, the thought of providing mental health support to a student without having clinical knowledge of the treatment of mental health disorders sounds like stepping into uncharted waters. The reality is that all members of a campus community can play a role in helping a student who is struggling, increasing the chances that the student will seek help, stay enrolled in school, and graduate.

Get crucial, actionable takeaways that will help you:
-Explore strategies to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where students feel safe to share their mental health concerns – teach your faculty and staff how to build rapport, listen actively and show empathy towards students.
-Gain knowledge about common mental health challenges that college students face, such as stress, anxiety and depression – help faculty and staff provide basic support and resources to students in need, while understanding the boundaries of your role.
-Generate ideas for partnerships across your institution – promote overall mental health and well-being for students campus-wide, so faculty, staff and administrators can work together to help ensure students don’t fall through the cracks.
-Recognize limitations – educate staff and faculty to know when it is appropriate to refer students – and how to do so effectively and efficiently – to mental health professionals for further support.
