Soil Judging teams from Iowa State University, Kansas State University, South Dakota State University, University of Minnesota, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska–Lincoln and University of Nebraska Omaha will compete at the Region 5 Soil Judging Contest near Grand Island, Nebraska. Contestants are expected to correctly identify, evaluate, classify and describe soil profiles in various soil pits. The contest, hosted by University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-NRCS, takes place Sept. 29–Oct. 4. Nebraska won the contest a year ago and went on to place 3rd at nationals!
