It has been estimated that the average age of the current farmer and rancher in the US is approximately 60 years old which begs the question “Who will be managing farms and ranches in the near future”. In an attempt to create greater awareness of the thought process and steps involved in a more effective transition to the next generation, the Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition (NGLC) and Nebraska Extension are teaming up to sponsor a Generational Transition session. This follows three similar sessions that were well attended in Scottsbluff, North Platte and Valentine in January.

This session will be held on Monday, June 12 at the Belvidere Community Building in south central Nebraska. The meeting will feature noted estate planning attorney, Pam Olsen, from Harrisburg, NE and a multi-generational panel discussion of ranchers that have already been through or are going through the generational transition process. The meeting starts with lunch at noon and will conclude at approximately 5 PM.

Pre-register by June 5 by calling the Furnas County Extension office at 308 268 3105 or contacting Erin Laborie, UNL Beef Systems Extension Educator at erin.laborie@unl.edu. Cost is $15 per person paid upon arrival.

This generational transition session is being held the day before the NGLC - Nebraska Extension Summer Grazing Tour scheduled for Tuesday, June 13 in the Reynold, Belvidere and Bruning area. Why not attend both functions? You can pre-register for both functions by calling the Furnas County Extension office.
