You should have received a letter from the Nebraska Department of Ag reminding you of your permit expiration. Or, you could have received a letter on yellow paper from the Nebraska Department of Ag indicating that your private pesticide applicators permit expired in 2020 but was extended to 2023 and that you need to attend a 2021 training. Bring the letter you received with you!
You will have three options to recertify your private applicator license:
Option 1. Attend one of the nine Crop Production Clinics that will be offered via Zoom / virtually during the month of January. The cost of the training is $80.00, and you will need to pre-register on-line at https://agronomy.unl.edu/cpc. Benefits of this option are: nine opportunities to get your license recertified; watching by Zoom with no travel; not affected my meeting cancelations; no concerns about limited meeting space at in-person trainings. You can only recertify; you cannot get a new applicators license with option 1.
Option 2. Attend one of the in-person trainings scheduled for January, February, and March. Cost of the training is $50.00. These trainings will have limited number of spaces available and there will be no walk-ins. Pre-registration is required by calling your local Nebraska Extension office for your county of residence. Checks should be made payable to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, payable the day of the training. Local training dates and locations are on the reverse. You can recertify or get a new applicator license with option 2.
Trainings are subject to cancellation due to COVID-19 safety protocols or bad weather and may not be re-scheduled.
Option 3. Take the on-line self-study private pesticide training. Cost of the training is $50.00. Registration link for this training done on-line at https://pested.unl.edu/. You can recertify or get a new applicators license with option 3.
Due to COVID-19, for the in-person training, pre-registration is required for everyone for all training dates and locations. Seating space will be limited and once filled, no more registrations will be accepted, and the applicator will have to choose another date and location. Those that do not pre-register may be turned away due to lack of space.
If in-person trainings are allowed, participants are encouraged to follow Panhandle Public Health District and UNL safety guidelines for COVID-19 at these trainings by wearing a mask / facial covering and maintain 6 feet physical distancing.
The state pesticide license fee is $25.00 for private applicators. Upon completion of your private pesticide applicator training, the Nebraska Department of Ag (NDA) will receive your application form and then send you a billing invoice for the $25.00 state license fee. The license fee covers the three-year certification period. Upon receipt of the license fee payment, the NDA will issue your pesticide license card to you. All dollars collected by the NDA in license fees are transferred for use by the Nebraska Natural Resource Districts in their educational programs. Your NDA private pesticide license card is required for the purchase and use of restricted use pesticides to produce Agricultural Commodities.
Please call the County Extension Office in the location you wish to attend to pre-register and confirm sufficient space for the date of your training.
