Dr. Busta studies how plants use fatty acids to generate diverse, lineage-specific chemicals. During his PhD research he examined cuticular waxes, compounds that protect plants from biotic (pathogens) and abiotic (drought, UV radiation) stress. In the Cahoon lab at UNL, he studies plant polyacetylenes, compounds with unusual conjugated carbon-carbon triple bonds that protect plants from fungal attack.
