Join the Communidad Maya Pixan Ixim and partners on Tuesday August 9th for the 2022 Indigenous Peoples Summit! There is no charge to attend and lunch will be provided but seating is limited.

“Dear relatives and friends,
August 9 has been designated by the United Nations as The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. On this day, people across the world work to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s Indigenous Peoples. To honor this day, we recognize the achievements and contributions that Indigenous People make to improve world issues, such as environmental protection.

Here in the land currently known as Nebraska, to commemorate this day, we are hosting an event to honor the stewardship, knowledge, wisdom, and cultures of all Indigenous Nations, particularly those with populations now residing in this geographic area. On August 9, 2022 at Metropolitan Community College South Omaha, we will be hosting the Annual Indigenous Peoples Summit. The theme will be Environmental Justice and Food Sovereignty. We expect to include insights from the Indigenous Peoples of as many nations as possible. If you are a member of an Indigenous Nation not listed here and are living locally (or know someone who is), please reach out to us; we want to include you in this day!

Speakers and panelists at this event will include Spiritual and Political Authorities of Native Nations, policy makers, renowned individuals in academia, and members of the philanthropic community. This event aims to highlight the importance of Indigenous Peoples as strategic alliances in finding the solution to the local-global problem of climate change and food sovereignty we face as a human family.

Who is invited:
-Members of Indigenous Nations
-Scholars, researchers, and students interested in Agriculture, Soil, Water, Human Health and related fields
-Farmers and ranchers
-Anyone interested in how strategic alliances can create methods of addressing urgent issues
-Anyone interested in forming strategic partnerships with Indigenous
-Peoples to steward Mother Earth
Please join us!”
