Carol H. Shiue, associate professor of economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will present “Social Mobility in the Long-Run: An Analysis with Five Linked Generations in China, 1300-1900” as part of the Department of Economics Fall Seminar Series on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. in CoB 202.

Shiue is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and a research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). Her research interests are in the economic history of market development and trade in China, the political economy of famine relief, and long-run comparisons of living standards. Another focus of Shiue’s research is on kinship organization and social mobility. Shiue frequently presents her research at top universities and conferences in the U.S. as well as overseas, and she has been a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation in New York City. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, and her articles have been published or are forthcoming in the American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of Economic History, Journal of Interdisciplinary History, Journal of Econometrics, and Review of Development Economics.
