CEHS AFIRE, OASIS and the Diversity and Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee from the Department of Educational Psychology are sponsoring the OUCH! workshop from 3-4 p.m. Oct. 5 in Teachers College Hall, Room 112. It’s free for all CEHS students, faculty and staff.

The OUCH! workshop is focused on understanding the impact of stereotypes and biased statements; identifying the most common reasons individuals remain silent in situations of bias and stereotypes; and providing participants the tools for speaking up against stereotypes without blame or guilt. This workshop is ideal for faculty, staff and students.

Moi Padilla, assistant director of UNL’s Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services, will lead the workshop.

“As someone who values harmony, this workshop was helpful to me because it gave me some ideas of how to respond to comments I find offensive, while also staying true to my harmony strength,” said Padilla.

Participants will leave with specific communication strategies for using when reacting to situations of bias and stereotypes.
