The Attorney General Jon Burning Lecture was established to provide an opportunity for students to focus on the significance of dedicating all or a portion of one’s career to public service. Bruning served as attorney general of Nebraska from 2003-2015 and as a state senator from 1997-2002. Bruning graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with high distinction and graduated with distinction from the Nebraska College of Law in 1994.

This year’s speaker is Attorney General Mike Hilgers. A.G. Hilgers lecture is titled “Serving the Public and Influencing the Discourse – The Importance and Impact of Attorneys.” Attorney General Hilgers will talk about his legal training, from law school and into legal practice and in his role in government service, and the frameworks that help positively resolve disputes in the law and in the legislative process. Hear how those same frameworks, and lawyers to deploy them, are needed in today’s political environment.

This program has been approved for 1.0 continuing legal education credit in Nebraska.
