“Improving Agricultural Water Management: Why and How?”

Abstract: This presentation reviews the use of water for agricultural production, highlights its impact on the quantity and quality of water resources for other users, and discusses some of the recent advances in optimizing the management of this critical resources using sensor and model-based technologies. With advances in sensors, availability of cell phones and apps, and internet access in rural areas, there are tremendous opportunities to improve agricultural water management and minimize its environmental effects using these technologies.

Bio: Saleh Taghvaeian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering. His area of research and teaching is agricultural water management and irrigation engineering. Before joining UNL in August 2022, Saleh was an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Department at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK. He received his PH.D. in Irrigation Engineering from the Biological and Irrigation Engineering Department at Utah State University, Logan, UT.
