The Lakota Medicine Wheel Talking Circle Model for Relationship Building is an Indigenous program for everyone to share their knowledge and stories
about their families, places, cultures and beliefs in a safe and confidential manner to foster stronger self-identities and create positive personal and community relationships.
Join Nebraska Tribal Extension Educator, Ted Hibbeler (Sicangu Lakota), for a four-day training workshop about the Lakota Medicine Wheel. You will learn the full Medicine Wheel program over four Friday mornings in small, intimate groups of four by sharing historic and personal information in a way that creates a bond and builds trust.
Additionally, after this experience you will be able to moderate your own talking circle, using this relationship-building model and a special introductory video of Ted explaining the program. Your participants will then also be able to host their own, providing a growth experience to additional people, and also training more trainers each time. So even though the groups are small, the ability to build strong relationships grows each time a series is held.
In order to receive your certification as a trainer, you must commit to attending all four sessions. Your presence at all sessions is also important for the positive experience of the other attendees.
Each group consists of only four participants and selection will be first come first serve. If you are not enrolled in the first group, you will be placed on the waiting list for future groups. All sessions are held on Friday mornings from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm through Zoom.
This training is available to all faculty and staff at the University of Nebraska.
UPCOMING SESSIONS
November-December Sessions: Nov 18, Dec 2, Dec 9, Dec 16
January Sessions: Jan 6, Jan 13, Jan 20, Jan 27
