An overview of the sector including an introduction to the fundamentals of philanthropy and foundation funding. Topics include basics of working with foundations as well as best practices and tools and techniques for developing approaches, strategies, and programs most competitive for private funding.

Facilitated by Tamela Spicer, program manager, Nonprofit Services, and Teri Behrens, director, Institute for Foundation and Donor Learning, of the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University in Grand Valley, Michigan. The Johnson Center is a university-based center leading a systems-based, comprehensive approach to serving nonprofits, foundations, and others seeking to transform their communities for the public good.
