“Shooting the Night Sky” is an art exhibit by Brad Severa featuring astrophotography images captured in Nebraska over the years. Most of the images were processed at Nebraska Innovation Studio using the latest stacking software, as well as, printed, matted, and framed using the tools available at the makerspace.

Brad developed a love for astronomy under the clear and light pollution-free skies on the farm he grew up on in northeast Nebraska. He started shooting the sky in high school with a SLR film camera and a tripod. After a 20-year hiatus, the global pandemic offered the perfect opportunity for him to jump back into this hobby. Brad reentered the world of astrophotography that now offered advanced equipment and technology. He transitioned from an SLR film camera and tripod to a digital camera and a type of lens specifically designed for astrophotography. He uses a telescope mount that can track the sky to take the long exposures needed to obtain these stunning images of the night sky.

Brad Severa is an Information Technology Services employee at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a member of Nebraska Innovation Studio.

This exhibit is free and open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
