Multi-talented Chris Washburne (who is also a professor at Columbia University), has recorded over 150 albums and performed with the greatest names in music, including, Tito Puente, Marc Anthony, Justin Timberlake, Ray Barretto, Anthony Braxton, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Eddie Palmieri, Celia Cruz, and Ruben Blades. His books include Sounding Salsa: Performing Latin Music in New York (Temple University Press, 2008). He was voted “Rising Star of the Trombone” in the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Downbeat Critic’s Poll.

The event is part of the Interdisciplinary Arts Symposium (IAS) Season III, which explores Immigration, Migration, and Transplantation, looking at the theme of transforming, transferring, or hybridizing cultural identity, and its expression in drama, music, and dance. We will look particularly at how immigrants to the United States use performance to tell their stories. For more information about IAS Season III events, please visit www.unl.edu/ias.

Tickets to the lecture include dinner and a concert by Chris Washburne and his NYC Latin Jazz band, SYOTOS. Tickets are $27 each or $12 each for the concert only.
